With more almost two decades of professional experience, Jonatan "Jona" is internationally recognized as a tattoo industry leader. A resident artist at our North St. Mary's location in San Antonio, Jonatan specializes in watercolor, hyper-realism, portraits, custom color illustrative, and neo-traditional tattoos -- although highly experienced in all styles. Additionally, Jonatan is an acclaimed artist. Not only can you see his artwork at the Aztec Theatre, locally, as well as numerous international locations, but his amazing art ability allows him to custom create a masterpiece just for you.

How long have you been tattooing professionally?
I began tattooing professionally in 2008, and with 17 years of experience, I’ve dedicated my career to creating art that lasts a lifetime.

What inspired you into the art of tattooing?
From a young age, I was passionate about art. I spent my time painting and creating murals. Eventually, I met a friend who had just started tattooing, and through him I discovered this incredible world. I realized that tattooing was a way to continue creating art, but on a living canvas. The idea that my artwork could travel with my clients wherever they go was inspiring to me—and it’s still one of the reasons I love what I do.

Tell us about your preferred style of work.
I excel in portraits, black and gray realism, and color realism. These styles allow me to showcase my attention to detail and artistic skills.

What other styles are you known for?
Over nearly two decades in this craft, I’ve worked across a wide range of tattoo styles and refined many of them. Some of the most requested styles from my clients include color realism, black & gray realism, watercolor, and fine line. No matter what you’re looking for, I pride myself on being versatile and adaptable to your vision.

What inspires you as an artist?
My biggest inspiration is turning my clients’ ideas into reality. The satisfaction of seeing their vision transformed into a piece of art that lives on their skin forever is what drives me. Creating something meaningful and permanent for someone is an honor I never take lightly.
